Milk, when certain bacteria are added becomes yogurt. Human beings, when exposed to mental, psychological, physical, environmental, or financial difficulties-due to unwarranted, unexpected and uninvited emotional subjection-as a result of accidents, bad news, deaths, sudden disappointments, and major loss change our consistency in cerebral form. We are no longer the same as we were before the tragedy. Now, yogurt’s basic composition remains the same; just as we mortals retain our visible molecular shape but inside-at a very basic level-something significant has shifted. Some people love yogurt; others, despise it. It’s all a matter of personal preference.
According to an ancient scripture: Proverbs, 9:12, “If thou be wise, thou be wise for thyself; but if thou scornest, thou alone, shall bear it.” What has that got to do with yogurt and the unfortunate tragedy that befalls us? Everything! Like milk, whose basic consistency is changed on regimented purpose, for a delegated result, we too, are altered, through the various unpleasant, but needful, ‘bacteria adding’ incidents that occur in life for a divine purpose, though we don’t necessarily know what that “regimented purpose” is at the time. We can either be mad, curse the event and the originator of the event, bemoan, lament, feel sorry for ourselves, cling to false idea that we, in some horrific way, have been robbed, cheated and defiled or we mindfully, gratefully and reverently surrender to the ‘cosmic’ alteration in acceptance knowing that in time, the imbedded wisdom, contained therein, will make us whole.
It’s all a matter of sacrifice; although the circumstances appear as if we had/have no choice. The inherent choice was instilled as part of the DNA in which we were biologically constructed. Sort of like the composition of milk whose consistency could not be altered unless the original make-up was such that by adding bacteria, yogurt would be formed. In other words, yogurt could not be made from orange juice, simply because the intrinsic elements are not there to begin with in order to be transformed. Some milk will inevitably be changed into yogurt; just as some of us will be changed by the intermingling ‘bacterial’ events/relationships that touch our lives. WE are aware, from having attended science class in grade school, that some bacteria are good and some are harmful; some are even deadly, such as E-Coli. The point is: we will be exposed to all sorts of situations that will inevitably change the season of perception around us.
Does that mean that we will all be changed into yogurt? No. We must simply learn to adapt to the changes which occur IF we are going to survive, thrive and jive with the conditions which make us ‘wise, alone.’ I remember reading somewhere that “obedience is greater than sacrifice”. I’ve often thought about whether there was a marked difference. Obedience seems to imply willingness, compliance, submission; whereas, sacrifice demands that we let go, release, surrender regardless of whether we want to or not. But, when you think about it, one cannot take place without the other, no more than milk can be changed into yogurt. The necessary ingredients HAVE to be there in the first place in order for the transition of conversion to occur.
So, too are we imbedded with the necessary ingredients for our transitional course of destiny? We are not going to be subjected to any person, place or thing that we are not more than adequately equipped to handle, master and be able to incorporate the edifying situation as beneficial, no matter the pain involved. Milk could not, would and should not be converted into yogurt unless the process was somewhat mysteriously magical. We, too are the magical byproducts of a cosmically based origin from which we one day will return. Whatever we were prior to entry is certainly not what we maintain as the physical shapes we exhibit now and whatever we were before entry will be altered’ in a twinkling of an eye’ when we depart. So why do we hold onto the unnecessarily vain and apathetic ‘kicking and screaming’ while sojourning?
Important as it would seem, we must remember to approach life with an open and receptive heart, mind, and spirit of voluntary surrender. Not in any sense of the word of being submissively, uncharacteristically pathetic; but, as ruthless warriors who exhume, discover, expose and utilize new found territories, artifacts and historical perspectives of challenging exploration. It’s all a matter of realizing and expected (without dreaded or incited anticipation) what we will be changed in the midst of our shift of seasons. If we could but realize, with celebratory wisdom, that life presents to us the fragmented parts of ourselves which reveal-back to us-the indiscriminate themes necessary for our submissive adaptation. Sounds so harsh, I know, but none the less, true. We will learn to be obedient to a self-generated force that is behind the obvious.
Complicated? Not necessarily. In other words, we are going to be subjected to all sorts of ‘wheels and wiles’ that will inadvertently slay our proposed sense of importance but at the same time, celestial attributes (which can make no sense at all) of strength, honor, conviction and truth will rise up that will sustain and glorify. Life asks no more of us than we are capable of giving and receiving. Ah! Did you pay attention to the last word? Receiving? Our supposed tragedies, full of painful psychological and physical wounding are all part of the gloriously magnificent galactic story of receiving. We are in no position to accurately interpret or decipher the broader implications involved. That feat takes a lot of walking in “wisdom, alone”, along with adjusting to the unfamiliar, uncomfortable strength it invokes.
Being a tower of strength is effective, if we don’t fake it. But, then again, how would we know the difference? Sometimes, when we think we are not strong, we are exhibiting the most fortified strength available to us. We must persevere to the end so that we may be “saved”, so we’ve been told in various philosophical/religious readings. Saved from what is uncertain except our own self-destructive. Self-sabotaging and self-intoxicated manipulative devices. Perhaps, we can’t change our minds even if we wanted to. The inert inclination of predilection is already in operation.
We are inclined to do what we do without much considering the consequences. In fact, the consequences are part of the magical transformative ‘bacteria’ which ultimately alter us. Our celestial winged horses of manifestation are already moving in the stream. We are powerless in our attempts to turn them around. They, like us, are not going to budge. Cosmically, the divine reason for doing something carries us so much further than the premeditated one of supposed advantage we constructed before the project began. In the final synopsis, we must all learn how to flow with the underlying natural rhythm of the current. That is, unless we are instantaneously converted into salmon and, then, we can swim upstream effortlessly.
