More self-discipline requires more motivation, preferably with immediate gratifying results of some sort. Sometimes, it requires making a mental list of the beneficial advantages of initiating productive action. But, then again, we, humans, are very stubborn and resistant creatures, set on having our way with as little effort as possible. We want instant results but we don’t necessarily want to work incurably hard for them. The old adage: “Heater give me heat and I’ll give you wood” holds true most of the time. Why? Because somewhere in the back of our frontal lobes, our vain selves believe we can get something for nothing. “Well, not something for nothing in its entirety, but at least a baker’s dozen for the cost of 12.” For example: when is the last time you tried to diet without cheating?
Built into our brain’s processing mechanism, we have accumulated false beliefs about needing to be pushed in order to get something done. We wait for the ‘right time’ or ‘right reason’ before attempting certain personal goals. I use the word ‘personal’ to specify just how much variation exists in ‘diminished intention’ which lies at the bottom of our mental foundation, (processing faculty) that intermittently fuels the impetus to start us moving on our designated paths. In other words, “Lucy call the pigs to slop” when dissecting the multidimensional layers of guilt and shame underlying why we do what we do and want what we want. We go at it from the wrong motives.
Unlike the thoroughbred horse, whose quickness, dexterity, swiftness and quick-tempered fortitude determine the speed and position of his happenstance win, the unconquerable instinct is palpably diminished. Unlike us, they were born, bred and execute the unflinching ability to win but don’t have a clue why, nor do they eat less or perform less based on whether they get the champion wreath of roses or not. Every race, they run with every bit of endurance and stamina they possess. Memorable Hint: just show them the gate, open it and they will run with all their might.
Do we carry out our dealings with such unfailing innocence? Or do we use an assortment of reasons whether applause, appetite or appeal to motivate and insulate us? ‘Tis true that our gullible attempts down certain roads, on the laborious journey, through life, lead us into many dark tunnels, which seem to offer some legitimate pot of gold, but only turns out to be a bucket of rotted maggots. So what? The trip, itself, presented the true gold, (IF we were a mind to see it for the intrinsic value it holds) in addition, to the searing tentacles of compensation (which rip our faulty motives to shreds) while we anxiously search for some sort of meaning. In each torturous soul’s exhibition, the outer meaning found, always returns void. But, with more confusion, conflicting and disturbing chaos, our innermost motives are revealed in jam-packed shocking, clarity.
We dare not stop, now. Unless we want to be swallowed up in the quick-sand of our gluttonous demanding self-manipulative treason, by continuing to believe we want what we thought we desired before starting out in the journey of perforated self-disclosure. Joyous be the celebratory occasion, when we are faced with the demons of allurement which so easily beset us! Let us call them by name, as the great master, Jesus, recognized “Legion”, sending them into the handy pigs for temporary habituation and easy destruction. Let us always be convenient to and for ourselves. No holds barred. If we hide from the intimate yearnings of our soul’s derivative pleasure, we will grow weary and despondent. No matter how fearful we may think we are or impossible the task set before us appear, the act of retreating smolders in our gut, disintegrating our minds, refusing to go out, bringing with it all manners of diseases and incurable mental derangement. And, just where did your think depression and panic attacks originate?
Stand boldly and walk courteously into the lion’s den of specificity with a dedicated purpose of wonder! Never pad the motive with ‘what will come from it’; or excuse the challenge with reasonable defenses and logical explanations. IF we hide from ourselves who can we stand before with integrity? We need not approach the soul’s delegated calling with trepidation, except that it propel us ever onward and upward to the wider circle of individual victory. We are to “Mount up as eagles” Paraphrased. When we come face to face with our purposeful intent, we are allowed to see beyond the veil of forgetfulness from which we emerged. Where lies our ceiling of limitation? Who defines it? Are we not galactic beings whose sanctified origin stretches beyond the vast reservoir of infinite space? Then, who, on this plane of existence, that walks on two legs can demand or demonstrate what we can or cannot do? Silence the limiting sounds of self-betrayal whose sole intent is to deflate, denigrate, defeat and deny.
The penetrative darkness of the unknown and unexplored beckons us. We need not hesitate or balk in the face of the sneering contemplative consciousness. By placing one solid foot on the plank of resolution, the imitative devil recoils in sheer disbelief. By the tenacity of callous willpower, our precious ruthless soul laughs at our half-hearted curiosity in discovering the emancipating truth. Yes, ‘tis so true! Half-hearted, because we really don’t want to get involved in any venture that will be too much trouble, involves too much cost, and certainly too much uncertainty. But, as contrary and contradictory as it seems, we leap anyway. Why? We are unmitigated curious creatures. In spite of all we learn and experience, we refuse to accept the nonnegotiable fact: We simply enjoy the implausible search as long as we think we part-way understand where it’s leading. But the moment it appears we are totally lost; we will, once again, rise up in ignorant protest; demanding definitive, detailed explanations. Do we really suppose we will be given any satisfactory answers? I don’t think so.
